If you have been a patient of a surgical procedure, you should be aware that the majority of operations are performed to the proper standard and, if performed by a competent surgeon, are normally performed correctly and without complications.

However, medical mishaps or medical mistakes can occur, and regularly patients suffer injury or harm due to surgical problems, mishaps, or mistakes.

Depending on the type of injury or damage, the harm can be capable of being recovered from, but in other medical operations the negligent manner in which the operation was performed can result in permanent injury or disability or even fatality.

All medical or surgical operations do involve a certain level of risk.

All of these risks should be outlined to you by your Doctor prior to agreeing to undergo the procedure, and if you then consent to having the procedure performed on you, that means you are providing “informed consent”.

Failure to allow you the option of providing informed consent to a procedure can result in negligence itself.

Types of Surgical Error include

accidental perforation of organs
incorrect procedures carried out
operations performed on the wrong body part or organ
foreign bodies such surgical equipment or other implements left inside the patient after the operation
surgical injuries to nerves, tissues and blood vessels
damage to vile ducts during gall bladder removal
laser eye surgery complications
difficulties arising from hysterectomies
Non availability or other issues with informed consent
